CERAMIC

The word ceramic is derived from the Greek word kramos, which means a tube of baked clay. From ancient times, in the construction industry, all kinds of baked clay and pottery in any shape and size were called ceramics, such as bricks, tiles and mosaics; But today, the word ceramic among the people refers to the tiles that are used for floors and walls and all the steps of its preparation are done in the factory.

Ceramic is an inorganic nonmetallic solid that is composed of metallic or nonmetallic compounds and is formed by heating at high temperatures and then hardened. In general, ceramics are hard, brittle and corrosion-resistant materials, and common examples are pottery, porcelain, and brick.

Ceramic and tile, which today is one of the most common building materials, was originally made from thousands of years before Christ. Ceramic wheel (of the type of container production) is one of the oldest machines that humans have made. Some date the use and manufacture of ceramics to about 7,000 BC, while others date it to 15,000 BC. But in general, the majority of historians over 10,000 years BC agree. In fact, the first man-made ceramics were pottery (such as vases or utensils) or sculptures made of clay, which either mixed on their own or with other materials such as silica and were hardened by fire. The ceramics were later glazed and baked to create smooth, colored surfaces and to reduce porosity by using glass and amorphous ceramic covers on crystalline ceramic substrates. Today ceramics include household, industrial, and construction products, as well as a wide range of ceramic arts. In the twentieth century, new ceramic materials were developed for use in advanced ceramic engineering, such as semiconductors.

The ceramic industry is a multi-billion-dollar industry. This industry is one of the industries that has a significant role in indicators such as value-added share, job creation, exports, market share, comparative advantage, supply chain (as raw materials or final goods) and the level of knowledge and technology. China, India, Brazil, Vietnam and Spain are the most important producing countries in this industry and Iran is the seventh largest producer and the fifth largest exporter of this product in the world.
